Sam R. Balcomb is a filmmaker living in Los Angeles, California. His first completely digital, feature-length film, ANCANAR, has just finished the shooting stage and is now in post-production. Twice voted #1 on the popular site 25 Hobbits, Ancanar has developed a world-wide internet audience since its debut in the summer of 2000. Fans have followed the film's progress from the very first pre-production trailer, storyboards, concept sketches, sample script pages, and casting calls to location reports, the release of stills from movie footage, full bios on the cast and crew, and Sam's report from the March 2001 AFM (American Film Market). Ancanar.com is an on-going, interactive site that will continue to update fans through each phase of post-production, including the new theatrical trailer, themes and rhythm loops from the soundtrack, and a question-and-answer section with the cast and crew.

A life-long artist, Sam early-on developed an amazing talent for illustration, which has proven invaluable for the ability to storyboard his own projects. He is a huge fan of the writings of J. R. R. Tolkein, and most of the images on the left are Sam's depictions of scenes and characters from the Silmarillion. Full explanations accompany all the images.

Sam uses pen-and-ink to create his drawings, which he then scans and colors in Photoshop. His platform of choice: MACINTOSH.
