“Spawn”

Being a longtime fan of Todd McFarlane’s artwork and his “Spawn” creation, I tried my hand at this hellish character. This one’s probably closer to my style than the Silmarillion sketches—I have tons of fun playing with negative space and how it can emphasize dimension. Little touches can add to this, such as the glowing skull eyes on the shadow side of the character, and the directional shadows that are cast by his arm spikes. Pretty ghoulish, but an exercise in motion and form.
