“Splash Panel 1”— ink version • compare to color version

©2001 Sam R. Balcomb

It's been a while since I've tried doing a splash, or dummy comic book page. It's fun to see if you can tell a story on a piece of paper with panels and text balloons. Now what I've done here is draw each individual panel on a separate piece of paper. This panel is the first of the page, and originally measures 7"x10". On the final page it is shrunken down to fit (thereby giving me the chance for greater detail). This was also one of the first drawing's I've done which uses Photoshop's tools for creating an interesting lighting technique.
