“Fresh Paint”
Canon EOS A2, with print film
cross-processed to E6.

This turned out to be a fortuitous day when I photographed these garbage cans. They were all lined up on tarps with wet paint everywhere. I was running out of film, but managed to get this shot that said “Venice.” The next day I returned to take some more shots but the cans had been disbursed up and down Venice Beach. Little did I know at the time that the project was part of Venice Mecca’s involvement with kids, who had painted all the cans. Director Jim Hubbard, also a photographer, saw the piece in the competition and loved it, saying, “My kids did these cans!”
