“Tattoo Asylum”
Canon EOS A2, with print film
cross-processed to E6.

To me this is quintessential Venice. This is a real tattoo parlor (and not one of the temporary henna stands that line the beach to supply the momentary trendiness required by both the overweight and often shirtless hamburger-eating suburb-dweller oozing onto the boardwalk in all-too-revealing shorts and the other visitors who feel a sudden primordial urge to decorate their skin). Tattoo Asylum harkens to the deeper need to be taken as seriously other (along with the rest of them). This is right on Windward Circle, where Washington Blvd. meets the sea, across from the fantastic contemporary studio/home of the sculptor Robert Graham and his wife Angelica Huston. Only in L.A.
