SERASVATI

As the Vedic queen of wisdom, Sarasvati is the essence of all truth. She is the wife of Brahma, the first of three gods that form the Hindu trinity that together form the manifestation of the one god. Brahma is the energy of creation, and as his consort Sarasvati represents the material outpouring of his thoughts into the cosmos. Her beauty so enamored Brahma that he grew five heads rapidly in succession to view her continually as she circled him. Her name means “the flowing one” and she is the Hindu river goddess whose sacred waters erase all the sins of previous lives. Her physical incarnation is the river itself.

She is the daughter of Kama, the god of love, and the peacock is her sacred bird. The many-eyed pattern of the peacock’s feathers represent her all-seeing wisdom.

Sarasvati personifies the feminine energy of the godhead and the spoken word of creation. She is the goddess of the eloquence of language and the inventor of poetry, music, and fine art. She created the sanskrit alphabet and the Vedas, the sacred Hindu writings, and she is the teacher of worship and the ways of holiness.
