How They Repopulated Swabia
After the Thirty Years' War

In Esslingen there lived a maid
And there her many charms displayed;
In Esslingen a lusty lad
In sexy Lederhosen clad,
Down by the Neckar on a date,
Her Dirndl tried to infiltrate.
Maneuvering around her flank
He tumbled down the river bank;
His cries were heard all over town:
"I cannot swim, I fear I drown."
She pulled him from his fateful drink
(When leather dries it tends to shrink)
And kissed him till his dying breath,
By Lederhosen squeezed to death.
The Frauenkirche bells were rung,
The maidens wept for one so young,
And ever since that tragic night
They haven't worn their Dirndls tight.
