Lola Haskins’ most recent poetry collection (of eight) is Desire Lines, New and Selected Poems (BOA, 2004). Her poems have appeared in various periodicals including The
Atlantic, The Christian Science Monitor, The London Review of Books, Beloit Poetry Journal, Georgia Review, and Southern Review, and her poetry also has been broadcast on
NPR and BBC, as well as being included in Billy Collins’ 180 project and featured in three columns by Ted Kooser, the current laureate.
Besides poetry, Ms Haskins has written an advice book for aspiring poets, Not Feathers Yet: A Beginner’s Guide to the Poetic Life (Backwaters Press, 2007) and a book of
fables about women whose names start with the letter “A,” Solutions Beginning with A, with images by Maggie Taylor (Modernbook, 2007).
In addition, she has completed a new poetry manuscript called Torn and a book of personal essays beginning in Florida state parks called Wind, the Grass, and Us: Meditations
from Florida State Parks.
Among her awards are the Iowa Poetry Prize, two NEAs, four Florida state arts fellowships, the Emily Dickinson/Writer Magazine prize from the Poetry Society of America, and narrative
poetry prizes from The New England Review and the Southern Poetry Review.
Ms. Haskins has worked often with visual artists, dancers and musicians. Two of her favorite collaborations were performing her book Forty Four Ambitions for the Piano with
composer James Paul Sain and pianist Kevin Sharpe, and playing the speaking Mata Hari in a ballet of that title for which she wrote the script.
